Christie's spring auction of Mechanical Music and Automata will take
place on 23 May, 2002, in South Kensington, London. One hundred and
seventy lots, including:
- Automata by Lambert, Decamps, Phalibois, Bontems, and an early
magician attributed to Rochat.
- Musical boxes including the collection of the late David Snelling;
a hidden drum and bells box in boulle case by Soualle; a rare seven-air
Lecoultre (part two-per-turn) mandoline box; an interchangeable boite
de gare in chalet case with mandarin automata; a 21-1/4 inch Symphonion
with bells; and many others.
- Organs including a 52-key Gasparini fairground organ with
bell-striker; a 35-key replica Limonaire; a portable barrel piano and
organ; and a chalet-style Amorette.
- Juke boxes and slot machines. Early typewriters and sewing
machines. Radios, phonographs, gramophones and an Edison Electric Pen.
The sale begins at 11 PM on 23 May and is on view from the 21st until
