Restoring Mechanical Bird
By Mike Walter

Dear friends, I was fortunate enough to find a small mechanical
bird the other week at a show. It is probably from the 1950s, or
thereabouts. The chirping mechanism is made of cylindrical plastic
drums with leather(?) pouches that fit over the ends. Both of these
pouches have disintegrated from age. These pouches apparently fit
snugly over the end of the drum.

Does anyone have any experience in the restoration of this type of
bird, and know where restoration supplies may be found?

Thanks very much.

Mike Walter
