I read the comments every day and have read with interest the
thoughts on the PowerRoll. Eric Shoemaker made mention of the
PianoDisc's commitment to make things right. Eliot Lee mentioned
throwing away $1500. There has been mention of support. There has
been mention of praise and disappointment.
I was a service rep and instructor for PianoDisc in the early 1990s
and left in 1997. The growth of the sales of solenoid players in
these years helped to stop the rapid decline in acoustic piano sales.
In 2000, 33,000 plus acoustic grands were sold. Player-equipped
grands added 11,000 plus more to the sales. Point being that PianoDisc
had the funding to support, through sales, to make the unit right.
In this "hobby" we all speak of the questions that needs answering is
"what is the possible unit sale" of the PowerRoll. Is the past funding
received available, and if not, will the future sales supply funding for
past units? Should units be sold and shipped before past units are
supplied? If funding is not in place, how do the suppliers get paid?
These are the hard questions I feel need answering.
I have been interested and made a living also in players. The time
and money I put into my "hobby" can only happen after I pay the bills!
I can not tell the bank I was designing a new player unit.
