Yesterday, we put the latest edition of the Artcraft Newsletter,
Issue #11, on our web site. The email version, which was sent directly
to the subscribers, was transmitted as standard text, with no HTML.
(We've found, after the fact, that some software applications can't
handle HTML messages, so are sending the Internet mailings in a text
format, now.) Anybody can access the Web page versions of our
Newsletters at this address, where #11 has been added:
http://www.wiscasset.net/artcraft/archives.htm
The link, from there, for our 4-15-2002 Newsletter is here:
http://www.wiscasset.net/artcraft/issue11.htm
Issue #11 links to a mega-sized page with 15 JPEG images:
http://www.wiscasset.net/artcraft/a-series.htm (which, due to its 1.1
MB downloading size, will take about 4-9 minutes for standard dial-up
modem connections). We decided to put all the pictures on a single
Internet page, which could be downloaded while one is reading the text,
since the visual references to our article would be easier to access,
in that fashion.
The topics for the latest Newsletter concern the activities of the
Educational Department at Aeolian Hall, in New York City. We analyze
and (try to) describe The Visuola and AudioGraphic Music Rolls, that
could be used in combination with an opaque projector, connected to the
spoolbox of a Duo-Art grand piano, which, in turn, could be under cable
control by the class instructor.
We are also preparing the 3-panel brochures for our 2nd Season of
Pianola Concerts at Searsport Shores, Maine. If anyone wants one of
these, containing 3 different programs, for our 6 musicales, send us a
self-addressed stamped envelope (#10, preferably), if you reside in the
States. Overseas correspondents may just send us an addressed envelope,
and we'll donate the return postage. Some of the rolls which will be
performed in this series are already in many music libraries. Collectors
might wish to put one of our new flyers inside an Artcraft Music Roll
box, especially if it mirrors a selection on one of the programs. (The
first concert takes place on May 25, 2002.)
If you've never entertained a desire to read about AudioGraphic rolls,
and see "close up" pictures, showing the details of them, perhaps you
might when you discover that just 6 rolls sold for $1400.00 on eBay
a few weeks ago. (By contrast, I bought 4 more, on later Internet
auctions, for a price range of $10.00 to $25.00 each, plus shipping,
proving that player rolls can echo Enron, when it comes to a rise and
fall!)
Check out Issue #11 if you've got the time. An example of The Visuola
still exists, from what I've been told, so we might have an Addenda
about this subject, in the next edition.
