Hi All. I am rather dismayed to see the bad PR about the Broadmoore
PowerRoll. This product is one of the best to come along in it's time,
considering that Larry brought this thing into existence without any
help of any major company with the big bucks to back it.
Also I may add that the PowerRoll may be attached to any player piano
without modifying it in any way. Try that while MIDI-fying any
pneumatic player type piano!
When you do this type of thing alone, remember, you do not make much,
if any, profit. I am confident that Larry Broadmoore did not intend
to cheat anyone; on the contrary, his charter is impeccable.
As the owner-arranger of a small roll company myself, I realize that
things can get quickly out of hand. Things happen that were not
predicted. That doesn't give any person the right, in my view, to
give the product or person bad PR.
I myself was roll-arranger, editor, shipper of my rolls. Although
I was very flattered that I got so many orders, I soon found myself
buried, and my mounting marital problems didn't help one darn bit.
I was called a "crook" and even worse. Now tell me, how is a person
supposed to arrange a "cheerful" music arrangement with that kind of
bunk going on? But my roll-buying public (and some well-known Internet
suppliers, for that matter) quickly dropped me and my URL links. It
was the cold hard opinion of profit.
Well, in my humble opinion, this is a highly specialized field, so
most of these things are made in small shops, and rolls are arranged
on computers. This is not Wall Street!
I have found Mr. Larry Broadmoore an indisputable person of his word.
Yes, I understand that orders have taken awhile, but I'd hazard to
guess that he has to see yet one penny of profit on the PowerRoll.
I think you guys should give the man a break, frankly; if it were not
for his foresight to bring the PowerRoll into reality, I doubt that any
of you would have taken the risks that he has. At least his product
is quality, and not plastic player actions slapped (or should I say
slopped)? into worn out, crusty upright unrebuilt pianos, nor is it
sub-standard player supplies, that continues to this day to be sold by
and endorsed by highly endorsed rebuilders, no matter what they do or
the junk they sell!
So before we lambaste a person for trying to bring a really good
product before us, maybe we should put ourselves in his shoes. He
is not AT&T nor is he a big company. He is a fellow rebuilder who has
taken the risks to bring us a super product. He should be saluted,
not put down! Okay, he can not do a company's job as an individual,
but now how many of you can?
For what it's worth,
Andy Taylor
