I have been stuck with the job of rebuilding (partially) a previously
rebuilt (partially) Duo-Art stack for a friend. What was done was done
well, but there was much neglected, like valves and pouches. The seats
were cleaned up nicely but the rotting leather was left.
The regulation to the piano was completely out with almost as much free
play as travel. I have a few questions regarding measurements that are
not to be trusted on this stack. It is a late model with round valves,
probably 1932.
What is the recommended valve clearance? The valves were not refaced
but who knows what the surfacing of the seats did to the travel or the
possible use of new gaskets.
What are some good starting figures to use when replacing the leather
nuts (which were reused even though the stems were cleaned)? A strange
sense of economy here.
To what height should I set the capstan above the guide rail, as an
initial setting, and what about the travel? I would like to spend as
little time under the piano turning nuts as possible, so I want to
start close to the final figure. I have only the stack and the piano
is far away so I can not visit it easily.
