Seek MIDI Organ Music Standard
By Pete Knobloch
Since I am also interested in getting Aeolian Duo-Art music in a MIDI
form, I wrote software that will take the raw hole information from
the Duo-Art Organ rolls and convert it into this Kegg Standard format.
My software emulates the jack-switch logic found in the chamber and
converts it to a more usable format that can be played directly on the
organ that is wired to this Kegg format.
What I am lacking is the organ rolls and the scanner to read them.
If I can get a hold of lots of these organ rolls, then it would be more
likely that I would make the scanner to read these wide rolls. The
roll-scanning group http://www.iammp.org/ is doing a great job of
making a scanner for 11-inch wide rolls but no one is doing it for the
15-1/4 inch width Duo-Art pipe organ rolls. At this point, I haven't
even had one organ roll pass through my hands, so building a scanner
wouldn't help me at this time.
I would like to know more about the availability of MIDI organ music
and details about the different pipe organ formats. This would include
details about what MIDI commands that control the organ features.
It would be great to come up with a common MIDI organ library that
could be shared by all pipe organ owners. Special software could be
written that would convert these standard MIDI organ files into a
format that could be played on the different MIDI pipe organs.
Is any one interested in something like this?
