I have been following the discussion arising out the problems with
RealPlayer with great interest. Shortly after I got my first computer
a couple years ago, I had downloaded a trial version of Winamp, and had
the same problems with it attaching itself to my MIDI files and the
hassle of removing it and restoring the Windows Media player with
which I was familiar. That experience was enough to scare me off
trying any other player until I felt I better understood my operating
system.
I have had my computer long enough now to think I might be able to
successfully import another player without the attendant problems
previously experienced, especially as I have for reference all the
information recently contributed to MMD about handling audio players.
I'm hoping someone will know of a player that will have a particular
feature I'm looking for.
At present I use the Media Player to play piano MIDI files. Works
great for this application. Also I'm using the Media Player to play
WAV files of Pianocorder data, either to tape or directly to my
Pianocorder. I can adjust the tempo of MIDI files in PowerTracks,
then translate the MIDI file to audio WAV file for the Pianocorder.
When recording to tape, then using the tape in the Pianocorder tape
deck, I have additional control over the tempo of the music because the
tape deck drive motor has a speed control incorporated into the system.
When playing a WAV file from computer directly into the Pianocorder,
I no longer have the ability to control the tempo at the deck, as with
a tape.
So, here's my question: Is there such a thing as a audio player program
for WAV files that has a tempo control? More specific, is there a
player that has tempo control you can adjust while it is playing, and
operates in Windows? (I'm aware of such a WAV player for DOS, but
it's beyond my understanding). Thanks in advance.
