Following reference to difficulties some people are having with MP3
players on their Windows based computers, I fetched the target file off
MMD Sounds site (app002c.mp3), then opened four different MP3 players
I have installed on my computer. All played the file normally.
These four utilities are
WinAmp 2.78
Windows Media Player 7.01
Real Player 8 Basic
RioPort Audio Manager
To establish my defaults within Windows Explore File Manager, I find
any MP3 file, then (a) Right click on it, (b) Click on "Open with",
(c) Click on "Choose program". It takes a while for the Open With
dialog box to pop up with all the possible programs to use.
Then, scroll down the list to find the desired MP3 player utility.
Click on it and Select "Always use this program to open these files"
That's it. I have found this process to be quite simple in setting the
default MP3 player I want to automatically open when I click on it
through Windows Explorer file manager. Both Internet Explorer 6.0 and
Netscape 6.2 appear to accept whatever defaults are established from
within Explore File Manager.
I happen to have a preference for RioPort Audio Manager, for both its
small dialog box, movable progress bar, and no ads, so have established
it as my default MP3 player. My computer system is an Intel Celeron
600 Mhz, with 384 megs memory, 40 gigs in 2 hard drives, SB128 sound
card, cable modem, WinME, nothing particularly fancy.
