I had to smile whilst reading John Farrell's posting about disposing of
an Hupfeld Claviola Piano player, or "push-up" as we like to call them.
About 18 months ago I cleared a house with 18 player pianos, all in
terrible condition. I had to burn several of them in the garden, but
the Claviola looked nice. There was one small panel missing but it
was quite clean.
I advertised it for an ice age and no one wanted it. I asked everyone
I knew and no one wanted it. In the end I thought I would take it to
the tip ('dump' in the USA), but on the way I changed my mind and put
it in an antique sale. It sold for UKP 25 or about $37.
I then spent the next year reading adverts by the antique dealer trying
to sell the player. I had many calls, from well-meaning friends and
dealers in the trade, offering to sell this thing to me for a
commission. Well, it all went quiet about 4 months ago so I thought
they either found a customer or dumped it.
This couldn't be the same one, can it? If it has a small panel missing
from the front above the pedals, then probably. If not, then no, I
don't want it, thank you.
