Seek Noteur for Gem Roller Organ Music
By Charles Moore

I am currently building an automated pinning machine to make new music
for the Gem Roller and Concert Roller Organettes. These organettes
have a 20-note scale and play a pinned wooden "cob" or "roller" that
is about 1.5 inches in diameter and 6.5 inches long.

We have already arranged and pinned 10 new tunes using a manual pinning
fixture which is very time consuming as you might imagine. With the
automated pinning machine we should be able to produce the cobs in some
quantities.

Now that the pinning machine is nearly complete, I am wondering if there
is someone with experience arranging for mechanical music machines, who
might be interested in creating new arrangements for these organettes.
Even with only a 20-note scale and 43 seconds of music, I know that an
excellent arrangement can make all the difference.

The particulars for arranging music for the Gem Roller Organ are
as follows:

Data File: single channel MIDI file.

Music Scale for Gem: This scale or any transposition of this scale.

 1. D 6. C# 11. G# 16. D
 2. G 7. D 12. A 17. E
 3. A 8. E 13. B 18. F#
 4. B 9. F# 14. C 19. G
 5. C 10. G 15. C# 20. A

Playing time: 43 seconds give or take a little. It doesn't work well
to try and play the rolls much slower.

Repeated notes: There is a limit to how fast a note can be repeated
with a noticeable break in the sounding of the note. The limit is
between 0.2 and 0.25 seconds. The way most music is arranged this
means that back-to-back 8ths on the same note will not sound separately.

Thanks,
Charles Moore
