Jimmy Yancey Tunes on Hog's Back Rolls UK
By Stuart Barnes
-- forwarded message, please reply to sender and MMD --
Julian Dyer has suggested that I let your members know that Sid
O'Connell and I (Stuart Barnes) of the PPG, have produced the first of
what we hope will be a series of blues rolls under the Hog's Back Rolls
label. The first two rolls are of Yancey playing "State Street
Special" and "How Long Blues".
We have a very few left so if any of your readers are interested they
are invited to telephone Stuart Barnes on 01483 502038 or email to
<janstubar@tinyworld.co.uk>. The cost is 11.50 GBP per roll including
post and packing to UK addresses.
The name "Hog's Back" comes from a high point of ground near to which
both Sid O'Connell and I live. We will hope to do some more blues
rolls in due course as these first ones seem to have been well
received.
Thanks for your help,
Stuart Barnes

[ Julian adds, "Sid O'Connell has created MIDI sequences recreating
[ (pretty well exactly) the original 78s, so the sequences are quite
[ close to what you would have got if Yancey had sat down at a MIDI
[ keyboard. They are very effective and only this weekend a jazz
[ enthusiast friend was most approving of them!" -- Robbie
