I am selling a used PowerRoll (the tracker-bar mounted model) which
I bought a few months ago on eBay from a fellow MMD'er. These are no
longer easy to obtain and relatively few were made so I jumped on the
opportunity of getting one. The previous owner had used it for a
couple of years in a whole slew of different pianos and then sold it
because he's working on designing an internal MIDI device for each one
of the pianos in his collection.
I'm selling it because I think in buying it I may have put the cart
before the horse. I was planning to use this PowerRoll with a
non-working Duo-Art that I'm planning to have restored.
Realistically, though, the restoration of my piano is going to take at
least a year (and possibly more like two). On reflection, I've decided
it might make better sense to pass this unit on to someone who can
actually use it now, and to spend the money I have tied up in it on
the actual restoration of my piano itself.
The price I'm asking for the unit is $2725, which is exactly what
I paid. This includes comes complete with the WindPlay software that
operates the PowerRoll (using Windows computer or a Macintosh running
Virtual PC). The buyer also gets about 1100 scanned e-rolls (a whole
library) to play with the PowerRoll (740 Ampico A&B, 300 Duo-Art, 60
Welte Licensee), which should be enough to keep you busy for quite a
long time!
The previous owner (a reputable California piano technician who's
known to many on this list) stated in his eBay ad: "It is in perfect
operating condition. It has been used reliably on Welte Mignon,
Ampico, Duo Art grands, standard 88 note upright and even an Artrio
Angelus piano."
Since our piano doesn't work yet, I haven't been able to play around
with the unit myself, and I'm selling it as is (in other words, I
myself can't provide any technical support). The PowerRoll web site
describes a five year warranty on parts and workmanship, so I would
presume the unit is covered for three more years (it's about two years
old). For more information, feel free to contact me or visit the
PowerRoll web site: http://www.powerroll.com/
For a while now my wife has been urging a moratorium on buying any
more electronic rolls or paper rolls (of which I have a closet full)
until we've gotten the Duo-Art restored. Selling our beloved PowerRoll
unit will bring us one big step closer to that immediate goal. I'd say
that in getting piano restored, as in novel writing, there are four
things of which you can't have too much; to quote Herman Melville:
"Ah, Time, Strength, Cash, and Patience!"
