Shirley Nix certainly tells it as it is. But let us emphasise one
thing she says - AMICA stands for friendship - the word means "friends"
in Latin.
Like many people here in the UK, we only really learned about AMICAns,
and Americans, when AMICA held its annual Convention here in 1995. We
enjoyed the Convention and the friendship of the people so much that we
have been members ever since, only missing one Convention.
We have found friendship and companionship wherever we have journeyed:
on trips to St Louis, Chicago, Indiana, Dayton, Cleveland, Buffalo,
Dearborn, Sandusky, Dollywood, Boston, New York, Sacramento and the
California coast from San Francisco to San Diego, including Hollywood,
with a stay at Shirley and Frank Nix's. We also went with AMICA to
Australia and have met up with AMICAns in England as well as in the
Black Forest for the Waldkirch Organ Festival.
We pay a little more to have the magazine sent across the ocean;
sometimes it's only of interest for what it says about friends,
sometimes it's got more for us. It's still good value. And we pay
a lot more in air fares to come over in addition to the Convention
Fees, and appreciate a little of the voluntary unpaid work done by
AMICA's Board and their convention organisers which keeps the fees
as low as they are.
We reckon we get a bargain. Join to find out -- but you'll need to
be willing to be friendly.
