Here's an unabashed and unsolicited plug for John Farrell's marvelous
new CD. The only requirement for enjoying it is that you share some
appreciation for the stride style of piano playing.
Some of you already know about John Farrell's roll arranging prowess.
Folks who don't have player pianos can now hear recordings of some of
his best jazz piano rolls, featuring music of three stride giants:
Art Tatum, Fats Waller and James P. Johnson.
John arranges piano rolls based on audio performances. He transcribes
the recorded performances by listening to them on earphones and from
there, arranges the roll masters. Some of the roll masters were
created by manually punching the roll's holes in paper; recent computer
advances allow creation of masters using a computer program.
Here are 29 of John's best jazz piano rolls. You've never heard piano
rolls like these!
