Craig Brougher's post reminded me of another difference between the
chrysoglott and other organ-related metallophones: the bars are much
thicker, making the tone resonate for much longer. I have seen them
with bars of steel and aluminum, with aluminum having the longer
'ring'.
I have seen two chrysoglotts with tremulants, both in Wurlitzer organs.
One used Vibraharp-like discs rotating inside each resonator. The
other was enclosed in a box with a series of (I think) 12 narrow
shutters in front which rotated and produced the undulation.
