I need to make room for an upright Duo-Art at my parents' house in New
Jersey. Therefore, the first piano I ever rebuilt must go. It is a
65-note Newcombe from Canada. It has a very pretty action that I think
was made by Otto Higel. It has a split stack and split hammer rail so
you can get a wonderful range on expression on it.
Let me warn anyone who wants it that I used white glue (Hey, it was my
first rebuilding job!). It will not take much to get it into good
playing condition.
The rubber goods are in great shape seeing I rebuilt it in 1980. The
case has had its finish stripped and, in spite of some minor chips in
the veneer near the back of the case on the sides and a ding in one of
the spoolbox doors, it will be very pretty when refinished. There is
a nice "Lyre" motif on the spoolbox doors. The tuning pins seem tight
as well.
If you're interested, send e-mail. It's free for the taking. It is
located in New Providence, near Summit or Morristown. Even if you gut
it or convert the spoolbox for 88-note use, I won't be offended.
