Seek Donations to "Send A Piana To Havana"
By John Dewey
After seeing Tom Gregory's post on giving away used key tops (MMD
011229) I thought I should post this for anyone else that might be
interested. Ben has agreed to this.
If you are cleaning up your shop and have useable odds and ends, you
might consider donating them to Ben Treauhaft for his "Send A Piana
To Havana" program. If you are not aware of this program, he gathers
used and rebuildable pianos, piano parts, and piano shop tools and
sends them to Cuba.
The pianos in Cuba are in bad shape: no pianos or parts from the US
since the blockade. For a while they were getting some stuff from
Russia, but it was of poor quality and didn't last well.
Cuba also has a bad termite problem. A couple of years ago our PTG
chapter sent 9 pianos and about 750 pounds of tools and supplies.
Every year Ben takes a group of piano technicians to Cuba for a couple
of weeks to help the local tuners with repair work. I believe they do
have a charitable deduction tax number.
His e-mail address is Ben Treauhaft <blt@igc.org>.
