I personally hate to have anything on top of my piano, whether it's
a piano roll or this mornings paper.
I have been bothered by the vibrations when I play or my Ampico plays
for me. For 10 years I never allowed anything on top but now, for want
of space, I have a Regina and a keywind music box on it. It's not an
indication that I've given in, but as my collection has grown my space
has not, and that roughly 20 square feet of space really helps in this
matter. I still fight clutter and try to limit it to two music boxes
and one picture.
The added benefit is that the piano chamber amplifies the volume of the
music boxes so that they can be heard throughout the whole apartment
(and my neighbors, too). This will not be a permanent home (certainly
not for the Regina) and when I next move I'm going to set up a music
room. But for now, it's on the piano.
