I would like to build or acquire a mechanism that helps to
facilitate the repair of a variety of types of music rolls.
Over the years, I have amassed many 88-note player rolls,
reproducing player rolls, A and G rolls, and Wurlitzer APP rolls
that need a variety of patching, taping, and the like. The problem
is, I usually roll out the paper in a mess on a large table, as the
repairs are often in the middle or toward the end of a roll. That
takes time, lends itself to further problems, and often doesn't get
done due to the hassle of it all.
I envision a feed assembly or chuck capable of handling almost any
type of roll, a large flat open area or board in the middle where
the repairs are made, with an all-purpose take up spool at the
bottom. Each would have a large hand crank connected to it for
winding in either direction.
I'm sure others have dealt with this issue in various ways.
Unfortunately, I don't have any parts or a lot of time to create
such a mechanism, and would be interested in any ideas or help in
building such a mechanism, or even acquiring something from someone
who has a surplus of parts or an extra similar apparatus
