In my earlier post relative to my efforts to acquire the 1975 VHS
videotape of "Treemonisha", and the 1977 VHS videotape of Scott Joplin,
a number of MMD participants did provide some leads, for which I am
grateful.
However, of the traditional commercial sources that listed these movies
for sale (quite a number), all were "out-of-stock" and all wanted my
VISA number before they would order. As both have been out of print
since the mid 1970's, it is highly unlikely that any of these sources
would ever get them into stock, but I would not know about this for
months.
So I continued searching through the 'Net and eventually found "used"
copies of these original commercial videotapes, both from small book
stores in the US, selling through Z-Books and ABE. Both declined to
ship to me in Canada, but both were quite willing to accept my VISA
card to pay for them. So I did buy them and arranged for both to be
shipped to a friend of mine in Florida. Eventually I will receive
both.
The exercise was an interesting adventure. It was also somewhat
frustrating at times in trying to deal with the larger commercial
outlets. Their interactive web sites would accept my Canadian mailing
address for billing purposes, but would not accept my "international"
VISA card, nor ship to my Canadian address. Grrr... These folks
seem to forget that the Internet is a worldwide phenomena, and that
their web sites will be seen and responded to by people worldwide.
Oh well, All's well that ends well. Notwithstanding the tribulations,
it was/is yet another good example of the Internet at its finest. Took
all of 4 days. Compare that to trying to achieve the same result by
mail before the Internet! Many thanks for those that responded.
