Seek 1977 Movie "Scott Joplin"
By Bryan Cather
In reference to Terry Smythe's request for the Joplin biopic:
There used to be a Scott Joplin biopic that aired annually on the
local public television station; it featured Eubie Blake playing the
(very elderly) bartender at the Maple Leaf Club in Sedalia MO. If
this is the same film I, too, would be interested in obtaining a copy.
The scene in this film of Joplin and John Starck playing alternate
phrases of "Maple Leaf Rag" on a harpsichord and a piano is magical
(although I never could figure out why a harpsichord would be in a
music shop in a small town in Missouri in 1899).

[ I love the end of the "cuttin' contest" when Eubie Blake, as
[ the judge, signals the winner by overturning the losing pianist's
[ beer mug! Dick Hyman performed all the piano music for the movie
[ sound track. -- Robbie
