Lubricating a Small Music Box Movement
By Bob Loesch

Hello, Andrew. Those inexpensive Sankyo (and other) music box
movements generally require very little oil, and then only on the
'fly', the fan governor which is the source of your 'slight hissing'
sound. That will never completely go away, but can be minimized.

Dip about 1/4" of a wire paperclip or other small wire in 3-in-1 oil,
sewing machine oil or a similar oil, and apply one small drop of that
oil to the pivot at each end of the arbor (shaft) which holds the fly.
(I use clock oil, being a clock repairman.)

Sometimes it might help to apply a _very_ small amount of oil to
the teeth of the worm gear which drives the fly. That's usually all
there is to it. More than that would require that the music box be
disassembled, a process which requires a bit of mechanical savvy,
but it can be done.
