I was lucky enough to visit the restoration shops at the Museum van
Speelklok tot Pierement in Utrecht, Netherlands. There, I saw
restoration progressing on a large Carl Frei fairground organ, the
105-key "De Schuyt". I asked about the glue being used, which looked
like our white glue sold in North America as "Elmer's' Glue".
I was told by Dick van Minnen that they use a water-soluble glue made
from potatoes, and that it was used on bellows, pipe sealing and many
other things. He said it was water-soluble even after drying.
The glue is "Aidol", made by Remmers Bouwchemie B.V. in Hoogeveen,
The Netherlands. Has anyone ever tried this product? I tried
e-mailing the company, but have not yet received a reply.
