In response to the message from Jan Kees de Ruijter in 011121 MMDigest,
may I outline the actions taken by the Mechanical Organ Owners' Society
to oppose the loss of this outstanding collection.
On 11th October 2001, the Society received an urgent request to submit
a letter of protest, the urgency being dictated by an imminent meeting
of the Haarlem Town Council at which the matter would be discussed. The
letter was actually in the post by the following morning!
I would be more than happy to forward a copy to anyone who would like
one.
The Society followed up this letter of protest with a visit to the
collection on 9th November during our 5 day "Silver Jubilee Tour" of
Holland and Belgium. On this occasion we were able to demonstrate that
the collection is a great attraction to overseas visitors (over 50
people were on the tour) and we took the opportunity to prepare a
petition of protest.
May I again emphasize, both as an individual and on behalf of the
members of the MOOS, that your opposition to the loss of the collection
is absolutely vital. What better opportunity to take advantage of the
ease of electronic communication and send a message of support? Please
act now as tomorrow may be too late!
Just as a reminder, messages should be sent to Jan Kees de Ruijter
<marenghi@worldonline.nl>.
Regards to all,
Peter Craig
