Was John W. Miller's posting in 011119 MMDigest an example of Tech A's
hourly rate, or do technicians actually charge this much? If so I'm
on the wrong side of the pond!
Here in the UK if I said, "That'll be 45 pounds, please," for an
hours work, I'd get told to "*** off!" Realistically, I would expect
to charge around 12 UK pounds per hour. Whether I'm faster or slower
than anyone else, or under- or over-charging, who knows? I would like
to think that I'm giving good value for money.
As for having set tariffs for particular tasks, well, who's going
to set these times and rates? A daunting task, given that similar
procedures may have their own individual difficulties that will
increase or decrease the time needed to complete a repair.
Also, we all tend to work at a speed that suits ourselves. At the
end of the day "How long is a piece of string", the job takes as long
as it takes, and as for $75/hour, "Yes, Please!"
Sincerely,
Paul Camps
