To all: Larry Sitsky, Head of the Composition Department at the
Australian National University in Canberra and prolific author of among
other publications, a two-volume consideration of the world production
of classical reproducing piano rolls, has an important project for
which he requests immediate involvement of the MMD membership. He is
determined to locate the DUCA rolls recorded by Busoni, including those

We are seeking help from anyone in Germany, and in particular in
Frankfurt (home town of the company) to find these most elusive of the
historic performances by the great Italian/German maestro. A doctoral
student of his, one Judith Crispin-Cresswell is to go to Frankfurt in
January to attempt to locate them. I have written her to state that all
of us will help in any way possible.
My consideration of the life and times of this great master is now
complete and can be accessed at http://www.rprf.org/index.html
Select "Resources" and scroll down to "Busoni Tribute", which includes
a complete listing of his compositions and transcriptions; his
repertory; the classic Berlin orchestral concerts; a discography of
contemporary recordings, a brief biography and a more extensive one in
PDF.
It was a labor of love, and took two years. It is not to be considered
as other than an attempt on RPRF's part to acquaint the casual inquirer
with some detail of the life and work of this seminal composer/pianist.
For more detailed information, there are three biographies (unfortunately
out of print, with one exception)... but libraries, of course will have
some of them.
Please contact us if you have any information. I will forward the
detail to Ms. Crispin-Cresswell, hoping to have some concrete leads for
her by the time she is ready to travel. Again, let me impress upon all
of you the importance of finding these rolls, and scanning them while
that is yet possible.
Musically yours,
Albert M. Petrak, Founder
The Reproducing Piano Roll Foundation
