Hi Don, In response to your MMD posting, first, I'm looking forward
to being a participant in your 10 tune APP project. As I've said,
I've been very pleased in John Malone's [Play-Rite] recuts from the
5-tune project. A couple of minor concerns: As you may have noticed,
there are several typo's in his labels. Many of the roll numbers are
incorrect (an important problem in my opinion), and some spelling
errors crept into the tune titles.
But on to your questions about A rolls, and possibly G rolls. For me,
I do not like composite rolls. I prefer original rolls recut exactly
as they were made. Years ago, Play-rite and Ray Siou made a number
of composites, and I think they did reasonably well commercially. In
recent years, Don Rand, as Clark Orchestra Roll Co., has served the
market quite well with A and G rolls, all as copies of perfection from
original rolls. Dave Miner and Paul Gottschalk, as well as a few
others have also been a source of these rolls.
Perhaps there may be some interest in composites, since Rand and others
have avoided that market. I would question whether the true collector
market that buys these rolls would show enough interest. Just my 2
cents!
