Tune Words For "Uncle Sam, Tell Us Why You Are Waiting"
By Matthew Caulfield
This is another opportunity to bring to everyone's attention the great
Levy Sheet Music website.
Go to their "advanced search" page (for which there is no link on the
site's homepage, due to a glitch in their HTML, which I haven't got
them to correct yet) by clicking on this URL:
http://levysheetmusic.mse.jhu.edu/advancedsearch.html
Then use the form there to bring up the sheet music for the song, which
will give you the lyrics as well as the music. The song was published
in 1898, words and music by Monroe H. Rosenfeld. Now there is an
obscure composer!
For any pre-1923 (public domain) sheet music in the Levy collection at
Johns Hopkins University, the complete sheet music will be displayed,
including the cover in color. That should interest devotees of
E.T. Paull sheet music, since you can print out full size copies of
every page.
For music not in the public domain, only the cover and opening lines of
verse/chorus will be displayed, along with essential data such as
composer, lyricist, publisher, date, etc.
