Transcribing Piano Rolls to MIDI
By John J. Breen

Dear Ken and MMD, As a reminder to MMD, and information for Ken who
asked the question in the 010920 MMDigest, there is a group of over
90 people designing and building devices to read punched media into
computer image files and then translate those files into punching and
MIDI files.

At this point, the image sensors have been identified and purchased,
the interface circuitry has been designed and built, and a "straw man"
transport system has been documented based on the excellent design
developed by Spencer Chase. All of the postings, blue prints and other
information can be found at

  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Rollscanners.

As I write this, several copies of the transport are being built, Gene
Gerety is debugging the circuit boards he has designed and built for
the many people who have ordered them, and much of the software has
been written. It is never too late to join the efforts of this group,
but be aware that the train has already left the station and is
barreling down the tracks at a pretty good clip.
