Street Organ Festival, St. Louis 19-20 Oct. 2001
By Cynthia Craig
Dear MMDers, The AMICA Gateway Chapter is sponsoring a street organ
festival at the City Museum in St. Louis, Missouri, October 19 and 20,
2001. It's called "Cranks and Pranks" and all grinders are asked to
bring something from one of their other hobbies for a special organ
grinder "show and tell" on Saturday at the Museum.
Grinding will take place all day Saturday at the museum (one of
the best of its kind in the country.) The museum is a vintage
International Shoe warehouse that has three floors of fun and fancy.
Everything there has been made of recycled materials. It draws a
tremendous crowd so we are assured an enthusiastic audience. The
City Museum actually encourages touching, smelling, tasting and
experiencing the art. Its motto is "We're here because we're not
all here!" Zaniness and fun are the products of this unique place
where "Every Day is a Circus Day." On the third floor is a children's
participatory circus where grinders who feel so inclined may be part
of the act!
The Saturday night banquet will be at the Rosebud Cafe, adjoining
the historic Scott Joplin House. The entertainment will be the St.
Louis Ragtimers doing a program about Ragtime on Rolls (piano rolls,
that is) called "Rollin' on the River!"
For details and registration information, please email me at the above
address. See you there for a weekend of music, cranking and pranking.
