QRS Organ Rolls for Storey & Clarke Organs
By Nicholas Simons
Bob Conant says he has three QRS organ rolls that are the same width
as the Wilcox & White rolls but with a square drive hole in the right
hand end.
These are designed to play on the Storey & Clarke organs. Storey &
Clarke also supplied their own rolls for their organs. The earliest
of these organs was unusual in having a clockwork motor to run the roll
drive, which was manually wound up before playing and had enough energy
to play and rewind the longest roll. Later models still retained the
clockwork motor but this was continuously wound up during play by means
of crank operated slipping clutch mechanism connected to the pedals.
