Dear MMD readers, Today I attended the international consumer goods
exhibition, "Tendence", in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. That's an
exhibition for expensive things you don't need in an average life.
I visited with Reuge of Switzerland, the Wendels of Ruedesheim and
some other musical box makers.
Reuge offers a new 22-note movement with the mainspring of the 36-note
movement. It runs much longer then an 18-note movement and it looks
much better.
In the past Reuge was the only one with bigger movements, for example,
36-, 50- and 72-note movements and up to three tunes per movement.
Meanwhile you will find some other companies selling movements in the
same size, much cheaper and under different names, but they look all
the same.
One exhibitor sells the movements under a real German name. He told
me that they get the parts from abroad. I'm not sure, but I think
they get it from China or Japan.
Kind regards from
Hauke Marxsen (Germany)
