Well, I've seen pipe organs made of various materials over the years.
I intend to build an organ for outdoor performance that will be
transported by truck. Since environmental conditions can be quite hot
and humid here in the South, I'm considering aluminum, plastic or glass
tubes for pipes. What do you guys think?
Thanks,

[ Almost any material will work if it's sealed. If you've never
[ before built a set of pipes, I suggest that you make a set of
[ traditional wood pipes before you experiment with non-traditional
[ materials. Then, if the sound is not what you expected, you will be
[ less likely to blame the material instead of faulty technique. ;-)
[ The valve chest of the air calliope uses no wood and so is very
[ rugged. -- Robbie
