I have an old cylinder music box, from my grandfather. The machine
was made in Switzerland, 1848, by Gueissaz. The box is made of wood
and all the box is decorated with black and brown birds and flowers,
very nice, and with marquetry on the front, back, right and left.
Dimensions are 26x15x12 cm. Open the cover and there are two mini
boxes, left and right, moveable and covered with red colored textile,
very nice.
Under the two moveable mini boxes there are two boxes, similar but
fixed, and in the middle the Gueissaz-1848-Switzerland machine is
located. (Approximately 6 cm.)
The original box key and machine key are lost; on the back right corner
of the cover there is very small damage. But the machine is in very
good condition and plays one type western music.
They are approximately 120-140 pins on the cylinder and the song plays
approximately 225 second. I say approximately because I don't want to
turn the key from start to end because it's not the original key and
I am afraid to break it.
The stopper is like "MU 215 detende sur clavier" in your MMD
Archives "Thorens Catalog No. 45 of April 1953 courtesy Hauke Marxsen."
[http://mmd.foxtail.com/Pictures/thorensCat45.html]. The stopper wire
is located under the wood cover. The comb has 19 teeth and only one
song.
I don't collect music boxes, I collect Ottoman ethnographic and
I am enthusiast from Ankara, Turkey. I have a question: what is
approximately the value, high and low? I want to sell it. Maybe
to you? If you are interested, please go to http://www.any1.da.ru/
to see some photos of the box.
Thanks for your help.
