On Wednesday, 22 August, a 44-note Regal piano sold at Christie's
Auction House in Indianapolis. Only two of us bid on the item and
the others seemed to have no idea of what it was or did.
The machine had a nice case and seemed to be complete. It hardly
played and tracked poorly, if at all. Apparently no work of any kind
had been done for years. The machine gave a very ugly rendition of
Beautiful Ohio. It apparently came from a local mall where it had been
played to death. The owner claimed she had paid $12,000 for it about
15 years ago. Why cant I ever locate these buyers?!
Anyway, a very nice gentleman bought it for $3,300 after hearing the
auctioneer, who admitted to never seeing anything like it, proclaim that
all that was wrong was a slipping belt. It came with one roll and part
of another, three extra casters, a handful of assorted screws, and a
rusty screwdriver. The buyer bought it for resale only so we will
probably see it soon on some on-line auction.
Best of Luck, Jim Welty
