Hi everyone. In the MMD of August 14th, Roger Waring enquired about
"Votellers Flight of the Aeroplane".
I have a U.S. Aeolian 65n version of this piece of music. It is
TM 100693, "Flight of the Aeroplane", Polka Volante Op. 7. by Voteller.
Copyright 1911 by H. J. Voteller & Son.
I have looked up Voteller in Grove's and in all the other musical
encyclopaedias kept in the main library at the Uni. of Tasmania.
Voteller doesn't get a mention anywhere.
It's interesting that Roger's version is rather like ragtime, because
my roll, the usual Aeolian arranged roll, has absolutely no syncopation
at all. It's just a pleasant but undistinguished bit of Edwardian
salon music. Maybe it would benefit from ragging up. I expect it was
inspired by the pre-WW1 craze for going to watch aeroplanes at flying
meets.
