The Snader Telescriptions were TV's first music videos. Produced
during the 1950-52 period by Louis D. Snader (who also produced
"The Liberace Show"), these films captured forever rare performances
by artists of the day. They were used by television station managers
as "filler" during the pioneer days of TV when there was nothing else
to show. For some reason I happened to remember them today and I
stumbled upon a few selections at "Videovault" on the Internet (the
finest source of old television ephemera).
One of the "Snaders" (as they were known) featured on the web site
showcases everybody's favorite back then: Teresa Brewer belting out
"Music Music Music" as only she could. Everyone knows this tune --
it put the word "nickelodeon" back on the map back in the early 1950's.
Along with this clip piano buffs can find Nat Cole and his Trio as well
as George Shearing. Also featured are a few other esoteric clips of
artists whom I'm sure you'll enjoy.
I'll bet many of you remember "The Snaders." Here they are for you to
enjoy again.
Cheers,
Mark Forer
