Replacement Push-Pull Power Switch for Piano
By Richard Vance

Replacing the push-pull switches in a reproducing piano is sometimes
a problem. The ones on offer at local stores are often flimsy, and
have low current ratings.

Here is one that could be adapted: the Cherry Corporation model
E79-20A, a panel mount push-pull switch rated for 10 amps. You can
read about it at http://www.cherrycorp.com/switches/pdf/catalog.htm
and purchase it on-line from Digikey for about $7.00 See
http://www.digikey.com/

It is smaller than the original switches, and some modifications would
have to be made. The hole in the plate covering the wooden box would
have to be filed out to accommodate the rectangular mounting for the
new switch.

To attach the rod, I would suggest first drilling down through the 3/8"
diameter nylon handle, just small enough that the threaded wire screws
in. Make a hacksaw cut downwards across the handle, intersecting the
drilled hole. Then wrap the handle with wire, twisting it tight to
clamp the wire in the hole. Something like the way a threaded wire is
fixed into the end of an organ tracker stick.
