Virtuola Expression Piano vs. Reproducing Piano
By Patrick Boeckstijns
Thanks for the replies I received regarding the Roemhildt Virtuola.
So it seems the "Virtuola" I saw in Brussels is some kind of
reproducer. Is it a true reproducing piano or more of a kind of
expression piano similar to the "Recordo" ?
What strikes me is to find a reproducer on a 65-note player system.
I thought all true reproducing systems dated from past the Buffalo
convention and the introduction of the 88-note standard. Any comments
anyone ?
Best regards,

[ The distinction between a "reproducing piano" and an "expression
[ piano" is largely the price; there are no significant differences
[ in the ability to perform most styles of music enjoyed in the
[ home at moderate sound intensity.
[
[ Each manufacturer touted his system as the best, so naturally the
[ customer (today's collector) does also; nobody wants to admit that
[ he owns an inferior product. But, when you open your mind and close
[ your eyes and listen attentively, you can hear both _marvelous_
[ performances and _terrible_ piano roll performances played by any
[ and all of the various player piano systems maintained in good repair.
