Roemhildt "Virtuola" Expression Player Piano
By Jonathan Holmes
I had a upright Roemhildt instrument with a very ornate case in ebony
and with Art Nouveau incised decoration all over it which was
in-filled with gold leaf. The action was underneath, the piano was
a type of expression piano.
I never quite worked it all out and adjusted it so it played well and
with good clear expression. The actual piano case was quite slim. The
main pump was placed in between the posts of the piano, and there would
have been no room for any pedals in the case.
I had a large collection of rolls with mine; I can't remember what I paid
for it but it was not much. I had to restring it and rebuild both the
piano action and the stack. I sold mine to a Roger Brooks in Scotland
but that was many years ago. I have never seen another one.
