Dear MMD's, Quite a number of years ago I bought a Tangley Calliope
from Mike Hanchett in Newton Kansas. The roll frame feed motor just
gave up.
The roll frame was made for Mike by George Cooper, formerly, but no
longer, of Nevada, Iowa. It is a 12 volt DC motor with attached gear
box. I spoke to Mike, and he gave me a Grainger Motor number (4Z838)
as the replacement motor. I bought it but find that it is not the
right motor. It is 12 volt DC, but the wrong output shaft size
(it has 5/16 inch, the original is 1/4 inch); the wrong RPM (at 13.5
volts -- the output of my battery charger used to test it -- the
original produces 40 RPM, the Grainger produces 28 RPM); and the wrong
shaft and mounting hole configuration.
The Original Motor was a Model "R", made by Brevel Products, which has
been since bought out many times and finally disappeared into the vast
complex of Maytag Corp. It appears that Brevel is no more.
Have any of you MMD's replaced a roll frame feed motor on a Cooper /
Hanchett roll frame? If so what did you use. Any information would be
greatly appreciated.
