I would venture to guess that the sparkle you mentioned came from
musicians that hadn't yet been ground into the dust by cost cutting,
insufficient wages, treadmill working conditions and the general
cynicism that comes from catering to a commercial mass audience.
I'm so glad I don't do it for a living.
