Patent Leather Valve Facings
By Rob Buckingham

Hi All, I just completed a project using patent leather valve facings.
This was on the recommendation of Durrell Armstrong (whose advice I will
never seek again). It seems that the patent leather is sticking to the
metal valve plate and the valve will not activate on low suction (or
even medium suction).

Is there anything I can do to correct this short of re-facing the
valves? Has anyone had a similar experience or, perhaps, a better
experience with patent leather?

Just for the record, what is considered to be the best leather for
valve facings?

My regards,
Rob Buckingham
