are buyers willing to pay for improved accuracy?" ... And if so,
how much?
I am looking at an Ampico roll, 60583-H, Liebestraum, played by Fannie
Bloomfield Zeisler, price: $2.00. I'm not sure when this was cut, but
it is in "A" format, so I'll just pick 1926 as the sale date.
Assuming a constant annual inflation rate of 3.5% (very unscientific,
just a guess) that brings the price to $23.00. Someone better with
these kind of calculations would be more accurate. Another guess is
by percentage of purchasing power. Assuming that the US overall
average middle class income was about $2000 then and about $32000 now,
that's a ratio of 16:1, so a $2.00 roll would be $32.
The point is that when these rolls were new, the people buying them
expected to pay about that much for them -- somewhere between $23 and
$32 for a full length classic roll.
So when considering prices for recuts, start from there.
