Try Guenter Nagler's MIDI utilities at http://www2.iicm.edu/Cpub and
look for the free utilities. MIDI2TXT.zip should do the job. It
converts binary MIDI files into mnemonic text MIDI files, checks binary
MIDI files for errors (option: 'error') and shows some MIDI information,
e.g., lyrics (option: 'lyric').

There are many other neat utilities there also. The zip files contain
the executable, the C or C++ code and a description file.
