I apologize for the slowness in responding to this topic but I have
been traveling. In MMD 01.05.03, John Johns mentioned that he has a
copy of "President Coolidge March" (US Music 41736) and included the
lyrics. I also have a copy of "President Coolidge March" (QRS 2463,
ca. 1923) but it appears to be an entirely different song. My roll is
a fast march, a very snappy tune.
The lyrics are also different. The lyrics on John's roll seem pay
more homage to the late President Harding who died suddenly while in
office, rather than to Coolidge himself. The lyrics to the QRS roll
give encouragement to the new president who unexpectedly found himself
leading the country:
Our land is lucky; we've had leaders brave and plucky;
Since Washington first came.
Not one ever failed us when trouble and strife assailed us;
They're in our hall of fame.
Now we have another and just let me tell you brother;
He'll prove as great and grand.
Let's proudly greet him and say to him with outstretched hand
Chorus:
Coolidge our president God bless you;
May good luck follow and caress you;
Our mighty nation with elation;
Bids you welcome to your station.
Coolidge at times when thing look cheerless;
Faithful we know you'll be and fearless.
You're true blue, a real man too,
And Coolidge we're with you.
Troubles will try you and enemies will defy you;
But that's all in the game;
There's always a faction to question your ev'ry action;
And pin on you some blame.
In all states you'll find them, but none worth the while will mind them,
They don't count after all;
For as a nation, best in creation, we'll glad answer to your call.
(Chorus)
