"President Coolidge March" US Music 41736
By John Johns
Hello Michael and MMD: When I saw yesterdays post regarding the
President Harding march I was convinced that I had a copy in my
collection. However, the roll that I do have is actually the
"President Coolidge March" (US Word Roll 41736). I believe this was
a campaign song written for Coolidge's election. The lyrics mention
Harding's passing and begin as follows:
When the Nation bowed in grief Sadly mourned it's fallen Chief
There was one who through his sorrow heard his duty loudly call
Since the mighty ship of state For a captain would not wait
Now to this man the millions looked for guidance one and all
Nothing daunted he began His new work at once to plan
And to carry out the mighty deeds that Harding had defined
So without a long delay Things went forward in a way
That proved to every one the working of a master mind
I find the lyrics a trifle laboured and the music is not to my taste.
However the roll is clearly of some historical interest. Do you have
any interest in this roll, Michael?
