Tuning the Piano for "That Honky-Tonk Sound"
By Bruce Clark
This is a new one for me!
I suggest that you loan a tuning wrench to the customer and let
them try tuning their own piano!
(Just joking... they might do damage to the piano)
Probably the best way to get the horrible honkey-tonk sound would
be to lower each unison a third of a tone. That would do it!
It is difficult to believe, but the majority of people cannot tell
if a piano is in tune or not. Yesterday we visited friends who recently
had their piano tuned. To me it sounded like the worst piano tuning job
I ever heard. The friends thought that it sounded wonderful. (I made
no comment, however I hate to see tuners charge top dollar for poor
workmanship. (The tuning pins are tight, I checked them not long ago)
