MMDigest Should Be Taken Lightly
By Don Teach
There is a heated discussion taking place as this is being written.
I for one have been receiving e-mail outside of the MMD soliciting
my backing for one side or another. This behind the back (so to speak)
type of solicitation for support is not why I read the MMDigest. MMD
is a fun forum that should be taken lightly and not so seriously that
one would get a heart attack.
Two plus two is four and so is three plus one. There are more
than two ways to get a job done. The MMD should promote a better
understanding of the attachment that many of us have for player type
pianos. I love the mechanics of a coin piano while the next guy may
love the reproducing piano. The MMD is a media that should show our
excitement for these old antiques.
I personally have skipped over the exchange of words on one type of
a player system because I have no interest in that system. I once
met a rebuilder of player pianos years ago. Our first meeting was
one in which I blasted his work. Till this day I still disagree with
everything he says and it is our (my) way of staying friends. When
he say's it is a beautiful white snow outside, I say it is not.
A big collector in Chicago and I have the same relationship. We
started out by debating the color of a wall. We are still friends and
just for whatever reason we always disagree but in a friendly manner.
So as two sides of an opinion debate the merits of a player system
I hopes it ends with both sides parting friends. By the way, as a
matter of principal (my personality) I disagree with both parties.
Disagreeably
